GPONDoctor™
FTTH Measurement Instrumentation
GPONDoctor™ portfolio
GPONDoctor™ is an advanced device for analyzing and testing GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) and XGSPON (10 Gigabit Passive Optical Network) protocols, designed and manufactured by EXXN Engineering for FTTH (Fiber to the Home) applications. This "all-in-one" equipment allows connection to any point of the fiber within a GPON ODN (Optical Distribution Network), facilitating bit-level data capture in both downstream and upstream directions. Its ability to interpret critical control and management information (OAM, PLOAM, and OMCI) is complemented by real-time extraction of traffic in higher layers. Thanks to its portable design and focus on interoperability, GPONDoctor™ is presented as an indispensable tool for GPON equipment manufacturers, GPON chipset designers, and telecommunications operators during the implementation, maintenance, interoperability, and troubleshooting stages in (X)G(S)PON environments..
GPONDoctor™ is available in GPON, XGSPON, and dual hardware versions. GD10K7 and 10K can be purchased with a single license and can be upgraded to a dual license. GPONDoctor™ is available in standalone formats (designed for testing in fixed locations) or in a tablet version, powered by batteries.
LThe GPONDoctor™ range is completed with the OLT emulation equipment, called OLTe.
Applications
Neutral analysis and capture
Independent captures of the OLT and ONT chipsets. The 'full capture' makes it possible to obtain all the exchanged traffic. This capture can be exported and shared with other experts who analyze the traces with their own application, without using the resources of an analyzer.
Optimization of XGS/GPON networks
The network CAPEX can be drastically reduced by introducing ONTs from different manufacturers. GPONDoctor assists in these processes by aligning the implementations of the various manufacturers until interoperability is achieved.
Network analysis and evaluation
The analysis app interprets the captured information using AI algorithms and translates it into a graphical format that can be easily used for an in-depth analysis of compliance with the XGS/GPON protocol.
With the captured information, it is possible:
- Obtain the network topology
- Detect the ONTs, data channels, etc.
- The bandwidth assigned by ONT and TCONT
- The degree of compliance with the standard applying rules according to ITU-T G.984.x and G.988
Real-time IP service extraction
GPONDoctor allows for real-time extraction of IP information encapsulated in upstream and downstream. This option can be used to regenerate IP services on the network such as IPTV, VoIP, by analyzing the quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE).
Replica of real scenarios
In combination with the OLT Emulator (OLTe), GPONDoctor allows for real captures to be introduced into the emulator and replicate the behavior of the real network in the laboratory, helping to optimize and improve interoperability between equipment in critical networks.
Characteristics
Passive and position-independent PON
Frame-by-frame control data inspection without the need to regenerate or modify traffic. It includes an automatic adaptive synchronization system to compensate for the distance to the OLT.
Capture + Test + Evaluation
Based on the captured data, it is able to infer the network topology and apply a series of rules to verify compliance with the ITU-T G. 984.x recommendation.
Complete capture of XGS/GPON traffic
GPONDoctor™ captures GTC and OMCI messages over fiber in real-time, helping to track negotiation processes and configurations between the OLT and the various ONTs in the network.
Real-time IP traffic extraction
GPON Doctor™ extracts decrypted user traffic in real-time from the Ethernet layer that can be used for upper layer testing using external tools.
Remote testing and automatic calibration
Connected to an IP network, it allows testing of a GPON network from a remote management workstation. It includes automatic calibration of the equipment on the network to perform the tests.
Regeneration and evaluation of QoS services
GPONDoctor™ can regenerate established services over a PON network. For example, multicast video, which can be captured, reassembled in real-time, and viewed on the device.
Compatible with Windows 11
Intuitive, easy-to-use app interface based on Windows 11, allowing it to be run on a laptop alongside other office tools and network planning and analysis tools.
100% reliable results
Capture hardware developed by EXXN exclusively for this product. The results are not influenced by proprietary GPON hardware implementations from any provider.
